Time-harmonic Electromagnetic Fields in Thin Chiral Curved Layers
In this paper, we prove existence and uniqueness of the solution to the diiraction problem of a plane electromagnetic eld by a chiral curved layer covering a perfectly conducting object. Approximative impedance conditions are given for thin chiral curved layers and optimal error estimates are obtained.
متن کاملCoupling effect between two adjacent chiral structure layers.
A pair of mutually twisted metallic cross-wires can produce giant optical activity. When this single chiral layer is stacked layer by layer in order to build a thick chiral metamaterial, strong coupling effects are found between the two adjacent chiral layers. We studied these coupling effects numerically and experimentally. The results show that the existing coupling between chiral layers can ...
متن کاملElectromagnetic wave propagation through a dielectric-chiral interface and through a chiral slab
The reflection from and transmission through a semi-infinite chiral medium are analyzed by obtaining the Fresnel equations in terms of paralleland perpendicular-polarized modes, and a comparison is made with results reported previously. The chiral medium is described electromagnetically by the constitutive relations D = EE + i-yB and H = i-yE + (1/,)B. The constants , u, and -y are real and hav...
متن کاملTunneling through superlattices: the effect of anisotropy and kinematic coupling.
The tunneling of carriers in stratified superlattice systems is analyzed in terms of the constituent effective mass tensor. The focus is on the effects on the tunneling which are caused by the side regions of an intervening barrier. Depending on the covalency and work function in the constituent layers of a superlattice, it is concluded that the kinematics in the regions on either side determi...
متن کاملResonant tunneling of electromagnetic waves through polariton gaps
We consider resonant tunneling of electromagnetic waves through an optical barrier formed by dielectric layers with the frequency dispersion of their dielectric permiability. The frequency region between lower and upper polariton branches in these materials presents a stop band for electromagnetic waves. We show that resonance tunneling through this kind of barriers is qualitatevely different f...
